- Stephanie Plum - Former lingerie buyer, currently a bounty hunter. She doesn't let pyromaniacs, arms dealers, Romulans, or home-wrecking sluts get her down. One way or another, she always gets her man.
- Carol Zabo - A friend of Stephanie's from high school. She got herself in some trouble shoplifting a pair of panties from Frederick's of Hollywood.
- Lubie Zabo - Carol's husband. He got his nickname by bragging about his expertise with a grease gun.
- Vincent Plum - President and sole proprietor of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds.
- Lula - Stephanie's full-figured backup. She's an expert when it comes to handguns and doughnuts.
- Connie - Vinnie's office manager.
- Ranger - Born Ricardo Carlos Manoso. Highly skilled bounty hunter, former special forces. He's a mercenary with a strong code of ethics that doesn't necessarily correspond to popular thinking. He has recently gone underground.
- Joe Morelli - Trenton cop who is Stephanie's on-again, off-again boyfriend. He has a reputation for living fast, which is well-earned but dated.
- Alexander Ramos - Wealthy, powerful arms dealer with suspected ties to Ranger. His youngest son was recently found dead in a burned-down building.
- Joyce Barnhardt - Stephanie's archenemy. Now she's a wannabe bounty hunter hot on Ranger's trail.
- Morris Munson - FTA who was arrested for vehicular manslaughter. Unfortuntely, with Ranger out of the picture, its up to Stephanie to bring him in.
- Lenny Dale - Old guy who was arrested for domestic violence and then missed his court date.
- Mrs. Dale - Lenny's wife.
- Walter "Moon Man" Dunphy - FTA charged with drunk and disorderly and urinating in a public place. Mooner is a colorful character that Stephanie has known since high school.
- Homer Ramos - Alexander Ramos's youngest son. His body was recently found in a burned-down building with gunshot wounds to the head. The police are anxious to talk to Ranger about his death
- Allen Barnes - Trenton PD's primary on the Homer Ramos case.
- Tootie Greenburg - A friend of Mrs. Dale's who make nice poppy seed cakes.
- Moses Schultz - Trenton resident who has some of Tootie's poppy seed cakes at his wake.
- Habib - Pakistani gentleman who is part of a duo charged with following Stephanie around, in hopes that it will lead them to Ranger.
- Mitchell - The other half of the duo following Stephanie. He looks like Hulk Hogan with a buzz cut.
- Whitey Blocher - One of Frank Plum's cab-driving associates.
- Frank Plum - Stephanie's father. He's retired from the post office and drives a cab part time.
- Rose Kotman - A friend of Grandma Mazur's who recently dyed her hair red.
- Esther Moyer - One of Grandma Mazur's friends.
- Buckey Moyer - Esther's son. He drives a hook and ladder for the Trenton fire department.
- Spiro Stiva - The burg's foremost mortician.
- Helen Plum - Stephanie's mother. Living with Frank and Grandma Mazur and having Stephanie for a daughter has been hard on her, not to mention the change.
- Brian Simon - Trenton cop who got rear-ended by Carol Zabo. He is also the original owner of a certain gigantic, hairy dog.
- Andy Diller - Trenton cop who sometimes works the desk at the police station.
- Reefer - One of Mooner's buddies. The name says it all.
- Rex - Stephanie's pet hamster.
- Mr. Wolesky - Stephanie's next door neighbor. He's an older man who listens to his TV too loud.
- Betty Szajak - One of Grandma Mazur's friends.
- Emma Getz - Another one of Grandma Mazur's friends.
- Mr. Kline - He lives in apartment 3C in Stephanie's building.
- Arturo Stolle - "Carpet King" and employer of Mitchel and Habib. He's tied to the Homer Ramos murder somehow.
- Hannibal Ramos - Homer Ramos's eldest son.
- Melvina - One of Grandma Mazur's friends.
- Elsie - Grandma Mazur's friend who gave Grandma her .45 long barrel.
- Madeline Krutchman - She's laid out at Stiva's.
- Dolly - She does the hair at Stiva's.
- Jimmy Curtains - Connie's uncle. He's a local legend. They say that if he's coming for you, its curtains.
- Dougie Kruper - AKA "The Dealer". He went to high school with Stephanie. Now, he deals in various questionable commodities, such as cars without titles.
- Mrs. Fine - She lives in Stephanie's building.
- Mrs. Morgenstein - Another tenant in Stephanie's building.
- Bob - Brian Simon's dog. He's big and orange, but cute in a prehistoric way.
- Louise Greeber - One of Grandma Mazur's friends.
- Mrs. Karwatt - Stephanie's next-door neighbor.
- Marilyn Truro - Stephanie's friend down at the DMV.
- Terry Gilman - Stephanie's second least favorite person, after Joyce Barnhardt. She works for her uncle, Vito Grizolli.
- Benny "The Roach" Raguchi - Crime boss who was gunned down in Deal, at the Seabreeze Motel.
- Ulysses Ramos - Alexander Ramos's second son.
- Cynthia Lotte - Homer Ramos's latest girlfriend. She works as a receptionist for Stephanie's ex-husband, Dickie Orr.
- Evelyn Nagy - A friend of Helen Plum. Her daughter works at the Personal Products plant.
- Eddie Gazzara - Stephanie's childhood friend. Now, he's a cop and he's married to Stephanie's cousin, Shirley the Whiner.
- Richard "Dickie" Orr - Stephanie's ex-husband. He's an attorney and a junior partner at Rabinowitz, Rabinowitz, Zeller, and Orr.
- Bunnie - Stephanie's cousin. She works at the credit bureau.
- Carl Costanza - Uniformed police officer who gets to witness many of Stephanie's disasters.
- Juniak - Another Trenton cop who seems to enjoy seeing Stephanie's latest disaster.
- Myron Landowski - Resident of Stephanie's building who takes Grandma Mazur out for a date.
- Mrs. Bestler - She lives in Stephanie's building. She sometimes leaves the elevator on hold after she gets out.
- Dillon Rudick - Stephanie's building super and good buddy.
- Junior Macaroni - Unfortunate fellow who works for Arturo Stolle.
- Monica Kajewski, Gail Wojohowitz, Angie Bono - Three women who share Stephanie's intense dislike for Joyce Barnhardt.
- Frankie Defrances - Another bounty hunter that works for Vinnie. He's recovering from a hernia operation.
- Elwood Steiger - FTA who got caught making meth in his other's garage. He's also a Trekkie.
- Jimmy Neeley - Policeman who sometimes works the desk at the police station.
- Mr. Weinstein - Resident of Stephanie's building. He drives a Cadillac.
- Alvin Margucci - A guy who was "clipped" by Mitchelll.
- Lenny Gruber - Not-so-great guy who Stephanie knows from high school. He once repossessed Stephanie's car.
- Morgan - An acquaintance of Lula's who bears a passing resemblance to Ranger.
- Marge Dembowski - A Burg gossip.
- Debbie Dembowski - Marge's daughter. She works as a nurse at the hospital.
- Julia Kruselli - A Burg gossip.
- Richard Kruselli - Julia's son. He's a cop.
- Grandma Bella - Morelli's grandmother. She is known to have some supernatural powers.
- Mrs. Morelli - Morelli's mother.
