FAQ (books)

What can I expect at a book signing?
We have asked the stores to provide either numbered or colored wristbands.  They will  begin to distribute the wristbands the morning of the event.  The numbers (or color) on the wristbands will give you an idea of where your relative position in line might be.  The stores typically call attendees in groups of 50 to join the line.  Therefore, if you get number 250, don’t despair.  There’s no need for you to arrive at the start of the event.  Stay home, go shopping or have dinner before you head off to the store.  Janet can usually sign books for 50 people in around a half hour.  If you get number 250, that means your group won’t be called until about an hour and a half into the event.  Don’t worry if you have a high number, Janet will stay until the last book is signed.

Sometimes attendees are lined up in front of the store before it opens.  They get their wristbands in the morning and come back to the store later in the day.

Bring any books you’d like to have signed.  You don’t have to buy your books at the event.

Feel free to bring your camera.

Each store should have a table of pre-signed books.  If you don’t feel like waiting in line you are welcome to get a pre-signed book, a balloon, a tasty treat, wave at Janet and take a picture of her.  The most important part of attending a book signing is to have fun!

Sorry, but Costco signings are only open to members.

Does Bulgari shower gel really exist, what type does Ranger use and where can I find it?
Yes it really exists. He uses Green Tea (Au the Vert) and you should be able to find it in any department store’s (Macys, Nordstrom, Bloomies, etc.) fragrance section. Green Tea is a unisex shower gel.

When will the next Plum book be out?
The next Plum novel (we’re calling it Plum Twenty until there’s an official title) will probably be in stores in November, 2013.

Will there be another Name the Book contest?
We’re not sure.  The contest to name the next Plum book has typically run from May 1 through August 31.  However, there was no contest for Explosive Eighteen due to its accelerated publication timetable.  It was the same with Notorious Nineteen.  At this point, we aren’t sure if the Plums will go back to being summer books or will now come out in the fall.  Keep watching the website for updates on the publication schedule.

What’s going on with the One For the Money movie?
The movie was released on January 27, 2012.  The DVD of the movie came out in the U.S. and Canada on May 15, 2012.  Katherine Heigl is cast as Stephanie, Jason O’Mara as Joe Morelli and Daniel Sunjata as Ranger. In addition, Sherri Shepard stars as Lula, Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Mazur, John Leguizamo as Jimmy Alpha, Patrick Fischler as Vinnie, Ana Reeder as Connie,  Nate Mooney as Eddie Gazarra and Jack Erdie as Flat-Nosed Louis.  Janet sold the movie rights to One For the Money in 1993, and had no involvement or influence in the making of the movie…casting, directing, the script, editing,  etc.  We thought the movie was terrific.

When is Janet coming to my city/country on tour?
I’m afraid we don’t know the answer to this one. Every year we try to switch cities around so that we can visit new places or places we haven’t seen in a while. Hopefully your city and/or country will be on the next tour.  Keep watching the site, Facebook and newsletter for up-to-date tour info.

I have a mis-printed book / I’m missing pages / Someone else’s book has taken over a chapter of your book. What do I do?
Take the book back to the store from which you bought it. Like a sweater with a hole in it, the store will gladly exchange the defective book for a new, good copy. If you don’t live near the store from which you bought it, you can take the bad book to any large chain (Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Millions, etc.) and they will exchange it for you. You do not need a receipt to exchange a misprinted book.

Has Janet written any books other than the Plum novels?
Yes. Prior to the Plum series Janet wrote romance novels. Three under the name Steffie Hall and nine under Janet Evanovich.  She has also written Metro Girl and Motor Mouth (featuring Alex Barnaby and Sam Hooker) and Wicked Appetite (featuring Diesel and Lizzy Tucker.)  You can get a complete list of Janet’s novels here.

Is there a real Joe Morelli and Ranger?
We wish!

How many more Plum books does Janet intend to write?
She doesn’t know. She doesn’t have any plans to stop writing about Stephanie and the gang. She’s having too much fun!

Who is reading the audios for the next Plum novel, and why isn’t it CJ Critt/Lori Petty/Debbie Mazar?
Sizzling Sixteen is an Audio Renaissance (now known as Macmillan Audio) audiobook recording for St. Martin’s Press. For Smokin’ Seventeen, Explosive Eighteen, Notorious Nineteen and Takedown Twenty, the audio publisher is Random House Audio.  The reader for both abridged and UNabridged books will continue to be Lorelei King. She has done a fantastic job on all of the UK Plum audios. She does not read with a British accent. She has been nominated for a CWA award for one of her Stephanie Plum readings. CJ Critt no longer reads the Plum books due to Lorelei’s association with Macmillan Audio and Random House Audio.  Recorded Books used to do the UNabridged versions of audio books for Audio Rennaissance (now Macmillan Audio), but that contract ended a few years ago.
